URLs and data
What a link looks like
https://dl.aquagen.co.in/d/ABCD1234?utm=whatsapp&data=eyJlbWFpbCI6ImphbmVAZXhhbXBsZS5jb20ifQ
└──────────────────────┘ └┘ └──────┘ └──────────┘ └──────────────────────────────┘
handler prefix link id utm tags data (base64)
Only the link id is required. utm and data are optional extras you add per share.
UTM tags
- Comma separated:
utm=email, weekly. Up to 10 tags, 50 characters each. - They label the visit in Mixpanel (which channel, which campaign).
- If the URL has
utm, those tags replace the link's default tags. They are not added to them. If the URL has noutm, the defaults are used by themselves, so you never need to repeat them. - Example: the link's defaults are
email.?utm=whatsapprecords justwhatsapp, notemail, whatsapp. To keepemailas well, write?utm=email, whatsapp.
data (dynamic params)
data carries values for one person or one send. It is a small JSON object, base64url-encoded:
{"email":"jane@example.com"} → eyJlbWFpbCI6ImphbmVAZXhhbXBsZS5jb20ifQ
Rules:
- Only the names listed under Dynamic params on the link are used. Anything else is ignored.
datacan never change where a link goes. - Values must be text, numbers or true/false. Nested objects are ignored.
- If a name is saved on the link and sent in
data, thedatavalue is used. The saved value is only a fallback for when the URL doesn't provide one.- Example: the link saves
range = weekand allowsrange. With nodata, the app usesweek. Withdataof{"range":"month"}, it usesmonth. - If
rangeis not in Dynamic params, datacannot change it:weekalways applies. That is how you keep a value fixed.
- Example: the link saves
- Keep values under 200 characters.
Don't want to encode by hand? Use Customize link on the link's page. Type the values, copy the URL.
All the combinations
| You add | What happens |
|---|---|
| nothing | Opens what the link was created with, with its default UTM tags |
?utm=whatsapp | Same destination, tagged whatsapp instead of the defaults |
?data=… | Fills the allowed dynamic params |
?utm=email&data=… | Both. Typical for emails the backend builds, one per recipient |
data with a name that is not allowed | That name is dropped |
data with a name that is also saved on the link | The data value wins |
Prefixes
| Prefix | Site |
|---|---|
d | AquaGen |
ar | AquaRecycle |
lp | LakePulse |
rwi | Rain Water Intelligence |
i | Email open pixel (different address, see Email pixel) |
Always copy the URL from the link instead of typing it, so the prefix matches the link.
